Streetscape Art & Wayfinding

I led and managed JBG SMITH's Artscape and Wayfinding project in DC's Shaw neighborhood, with a focus on placemaking to elevate the area's identity and visibility. The goal was to organically brand Shaw, making it easily recognizable to both pedestrians and drivers while emphasizing key retail assets. To capture the neighborhood's authentic vibrancy, we incorporated patterns and artwork inspired by a local mural, reflecting Shaw’s unique character and energy. I collaborated closely with our graphic designer and fabricator to design and implement Shaw-branded banners, wayfinding signage, and custom graphics on sidewalks, trashcans, and bike racks around prominent mixed-use properties, including Atlantic Plumbing and The Shay.

Event Planning & Activations

Neighborhood Activation

Shaw, DC

I was tasked with activating the streetscape and sidewalk area outside JBG SMITH's mixed-use property, The Shay, with the goal of increasing retail traffic on weekend mornings while creating a vibrant atmosphere that complemented the surrounding neighborhood. To achieve this, I partnered with DC FRAY to launch a "Silent Disco Yoga" series, tapping into their large following to draw attendees from across the city. We supported the event with an extensive email and social media campaign, generating significant buzz ahead of the launch. The program gained media attention, with features in Washingtonian Magazine, On Tap Magazine, and Brightest Young Things.

Convention Booth Redesign/Event Planning

ICSC Las Vegas

The ICSC booth serves as a traveling meeting space for JBG SMITH at industry conferences, and following the company's rebrand in 2017, I led the complete redesign and rebranding of the booth. Working closely with fabricators and vendor agencies, we elevated the space with creative, unique touches that set it apart from competitors. The booth was transformed into a bright, modern environment that reflected JBG SMITH's elevated brand and quality, incorporating standout features such as bold visuals, premium materials, and interactive elements. This reimagined space not only drew attention but also created a memorable, engaging experience that distinguished us from traditional conference booths.

To promote JBG SMITH's latest commercial development in the Ballpark District, we introduced a distinctive activation—a "Washington Nationals Baseball" swag store. This innovative addition allowed key clients visiting the booth to leave with exclusive Nationals merchandise and branded promotional items, enhancing their overall experience and deepening their connection to the project.

Convention Booth Redesign/Event Planning

ICSC New York & Washington, DC

In addition to the larger booth redesign, I had the opportunity to create a compact, tailored version specifically for our retail vertical in New York City and Washington, DC. For this booth, I embraced an urban, streetscape-inspired aesthetic to capture the dynamic energy of a retail environment. I added a striking overhead structure to create height, while incorporating elements such as street art, string lights, plants, and a curated wall of décor that showcased JBG SMITH's retail assets. The aim was to craft an immersive atmosphere that mimicked a vibrant, street-level scene, bringing the essence of a retail streetscape to life.

The booth shelves were curated with plants, art, and decor purchased from local DC retailers that are within JBG SMITH's portfolio. To create a more elevated booth experience, a fridge was stocked with fresh-pressed juices, iced coffees, and snacks from Union Kitchen Grocery (JBG SMITH tenant).
